Mechanical Keyboard!

Before the GMMK Pro, I had a Razer Huntsman V2 Analog. It features:

  • bad keycaps with bad illumination (there are areas less illuminated than others)
  • a volume knob that breaks after 1 year in use
  • a more or less bad software to go with (it uses plenty of resources on your computer, connects to Razer and sends usage statistics)

So, all in all a bad keyboard...

One great thing about the GMMK Pro is, that it can be freely programmed with an open-source firmware. The firmware and configuration tool (Glorious Core) that goes with the keyboard is not that great. There are plenty of other keyboard, that have the same functionality. They use an ARM chip. For example: the Keychron V6.

Looking back I would have probably gone with a cheaper alternative, but I only became aware of those through my activities in the Quantum Mechanical Keyboard (QMK) Firmware community... Look for "mechanical keyboard ARM" on your preferred search engine, and you will find plenty of pleasing options. It's probably smart to get a test set of keys (if some are available without shipping, maybe from Amazon). I went for clicky pre-lubed switches.

QMK has a starter guide for every platform. And if you have any questions, you can join their Discord server (or write me a message).
